Where science & industry meet

2009 Awards for Innovation

Awards2Plastic electronics has the potential to revitalise economies - globally - creating new jobs and wealth in hi-tech and traditional industries.

Publishing, healthcare, construction, automotive, sportswear, consumer and industrial electronics, packaging and automotive are just some of the industries that stand to benefit from this emerging, dynamic field of science and technology, emerging as an industry forecast to be worth $35 billion by 2006.

Most importantly, plastic electronics could play a crucial role in aiding our progress towards 'low carbon economies', by enabling affordable sources of renewable energy and more power-efficient electronics.

To celebrate and reward the endeavour of the thousands of companies and research institutes involved in developing and commercialising new products based on the printing and coating of organic and inorganic electronic materials, +Plastic Electronics magazine and The Plastic Electronics Foundation were proud to co-present the Plastic Electronics Awards 09 at this year's Plastic Electronics Conference and Exhibition.

And the winner is...

Outstanding Contribution to Plastic Electronics - sponsored by Cambridge Display Technology

CDTFor a longstanding academic career of exceptional contributions in the field of plastic electronics. To be decided by the panel.

WINNER - Dr. Ching Tang, Doris Johns Cherry Professor of Chemical Engineering of the University of Rochester for his work at Kodak (presented to Jim Buntaine in Dr. Tang's absence)

Engineering Breakthrough - sponsored by Fraunhofer IPMS

Fraunhofer IPMSThe award identifies and acknowledges breakthroughs in engineering, from 'lab-to-fab', during the last 12 months, that will make a plastic electronics-based product scaleable - ready for pilot or commercial production.
