Cambridge Display Technology (CDT), a subsidiary of Sumitomo Chemical, is a pioneer in the development of light emitting polymer materials (LEPs) and devices (P-OLEDs) and their use in a wide range of electronic displays used for communications, information management and entertainment. Furthermore, P-OLED technology can be applicable in broader applications such as photovoltaics (PV), flexible displays and lighting.

P-OLEDs are the key to outstanding displays with superior visual performance, providing reduced power consumption and lower cost. The high throughput and scalability of solution processes, such as ink jet printing, support cost-effective manufacturing.

CDT's joint venture with Sumitomo Chemical, Sumation™, develops and supplies polymer materials for P-OLED applications. Sumation™ is constantly improving P-OLED materials performance, recently demonstrating red, green, blue and white P-OLED lifetimes of 200,000 hours, 80,000 hours 18,000 hours and 8,000 hours respectively, from an initial luminance of 1000 candelas per square metre (cd/m2).
CIE chromaticity coordinates for the latest red materials are x=0.63, y=0.37; green materials are x=0.29, y=0.64, and finally for blue materials are x=0.13, y=0.19.

A global chemical leader, Sumitomo Chemical has positioned display materials as one of its core business areas, with a particular focus on the development of next-generation display materials and P-OLEDs through its ownership of both CDT and Sumation.

Solarcoating Machinery GmbH (ScM) was founded in June 2006 and is located in Dormagen, Germany with sales offices in the USA and South Korea.

SUNIC SYSTEM has supplied the mass production systems to PM/AM OLED and Lighting device customers in the world wide for 10 years old. From R&D(200mm x 200mm) to Mass production (370mm x 470mm, 730mm x 460mm) system are available. SUNIC SYSTEM has completed development of R&D system which is suitable for the size of G4&G5 substrate. Consequently, it is coming to complete the system development of mass production for the size of G4&G5 substrate within 2009. Besides, opaque substrates (cf. Si wafer) are compatible with glass substrates as well. Also, Encapsulation (Conventional Glass and Thin film encapsulation which would be generally requested in near future) can be supplied from R&D to mass production.

Through its Centre for Printed Intelligence (CPI), VTT combines its extensive know-how and research - in electronics, optoelectronics, chemistry, biotechnology, nanotechnology, optics and printing - for the development of cost efficient integration/embedding of simple intelligence everywhere. These developments fill the gap between traditional paper and printing industry products and ICT/electronics industry products with an aim for applications such as disposable sensors, simple "electronic" components and circuits, large area functional paper- like intelligent products, smart/interactive packages, tag and code technologies for ICT and hybrid media applications. Among CPI´s core strengths are the production of "electronics from inks", manufactured by mass manufacturing methods such as "continuously running" roll-to-roll printing and a strong focus on applications. Printed organic electronics developments in VTT include: organic transistors, OLEDs, organic solar cells, memory devices based on organic materials.
